2007
The group’s debut officially began on August 5, 2007.
Girls’ Generation won they first award ever on MCountdown with their debut song “Into the New World”.
2008
Girls’ Generation won their first k-chart win on KBS Music Bank February chart with “Kissing You”.
2009
“Gee” went on to become a phenomenal hit, breaking the record for consecutive no.1 wins on Music Bank with 9 consecutive wins, as well as receiving a triple crown on SBS Inkigayo.
By mid-2009 the group members were models for over 19 brand and were chosen as one of South Korea’s most sought advertisement models.
“Gee” won the Music Bank 1st Place Award of the Year.
2010
Girls’ Generation became the first girl group to with the Golden Disk Award Disk Daesang.
They also became the first girl group and the only idol group to have both a GDA Disk Daesang and Digital Daesang.
The group were on Asia Today’s list of 50 Korea Power Leaders at No. 44, being the only idol group from the list.
Girls’ Generation became the first female k-pop group to make the Oricon DVD Top-5 ranking.
Dosirak, Soribada, Korea Gallup, Hanteo and Sport Korea chose Girls’ Generation as Artist of the Year. Their hit song “Oh!” also won Song of the Year on Monkey 3.
In late 2010, a gift certificate company began releasing certificates each worth 10,000 won which featured Girls’ Generation images on the cards ,making them the first celebrities to be featured as such.
The music video for “Oh!” ranked as the number one most viewed YouTube video in Korea by the end of 2010.
2011
At the 20th Seoul Music Award, the group received an Artist of the Year award, a Bonsang, a Popularity award and a Hallyu award. In doing so, Girls’ Generation became the first girl group and one of the four big names in Korean music history (the others being Seo Taiji, Jo Sungmo and H.O.T.) to win two consecutive Artist of the Year awards at the prestigious award show.
The group became the only girl group in history to receive Artist of the Year awards for Seoul Music Awards and Melon Music Awards for two consecutive years.
Girls’ Generation were ranked by Forbes Korea as Korea’s No.1 Power Celebrity.
It was announced that as of June 26, Girls’ Generation has achieved record earnings of 2.6 billion yen in total sales from the first half of 2011 in Japan alone.
“Gee” was named Song of the Decade by the Korean music site, Melon.
On July 2, they won Best Group Video and Best Karaokee! Song for their Japanese single “Genie” at the 2011 Video Music Aid Japan.
Up Until Now
Girls’ Generation still holds the record on KBS Music Bank for Most No. 1 Win (27 times), Top 10 Highest Scores (1st, 2nd, and 3rd system), and Top 10 Highest Scores of All Time (occupying both 1st and 2nd ranks).
They have won 64 major awards and 51 music shows awards.
The group has sold over 100,000 copies for each of their five albums (all have peaked at No. 1) , a first for female groups in the South Korean industry in over 6 years.
They’re still visiting s♥nes everywhere with their 2nd Asia Tour.
